Downtown Cranford just got less stinky and that’s a bad thing when it comes to great cheese. Opened in 2010, Cheese…Please! on Eastman Street said it final goodbye to the community by offering a tag sale of its remaining contents (lots of cool tea pots, mugs, cutting boards and other great items to add to one’s home kitchen). Maria Tisdall, the owner of shop, quipped on Facebook, “Saying goodbye is never easy, but buying a souvenir is!”
News of the shop’s shuttering evoked a number of responses from loyal followers of the cheesy storefront, known for carrying hard to find products and other artisinal gems. “I still don’t want to believe it’s happening” bemoaned @whichdanielle on Instagram.
Cheese…Please! wasn’t just a favorite for those who shop Downtown, the shop was well known for its booth at the Cranford and Scotch Plains Farmer Markets too. Cheese…Please! was featured in the New York Times in 2011.
Loyal shoppers had nothing but nice things to say about the store’s knowledgeable and friendly owner and predicted great success in future endeavors, “You will rock at whatever your new venture is. Best of luck to you” said one gourmand on Facebook.
