The annual St. Michael’s Festival (uses hashtag: #SMfeast) in Downtown Cranford features a giant (and surprisingly fast-moving) ferris wheel that delights kids of all ages. Towering over the rest of the festival, it offers a bird’s-eye view of the family-oriented gathering that draws hundreds.

Teacups and other kid-friendly rides dot the parking lot off Alden Street. Games of chance tempt with Minions, teddy bears and stuffed calamari (various colored octopus).

A small beer tent for adults was jumping with action, while food vendors like Downtown Butcher Shop Perrotti’s dished out carnival favorites including Sausage & Peppers and Meatball Sandwiches. No Festival is complete without Zeppoles. Bring on the fried dough!

And how could we forget to mention, Pope Francis (in the USA for the first time as Pontiff) made an appearance, posing for selfies and family photos. He really is a people person! Along with many feast-goers, the Cranford Police Department had some fun with the Cardboard cutout of his Holiness.

The festival is in its 11th year and helps support St. Michael Church and its programs. This year, Kilkenny House, Lifeline Technology Solutions and the Cranford Knights of Columbus are the big sponsors.
